However, its commitment to a “keep it old school” approach ultimately holds it back. Previous mochis, especially those from earlier generations and special editions, introduced vibrant personalities and small, unique animations that gave each a distinct charm. In comparison, this mochi stops short of providing a dull, non-expressive initial idle loop.

Given the potential of the 3rd generation, it’s disappointing that this mochi doesn’t explore more expressive features. The mochi could have played more into the theme of flames by offering: reactive flame intensity, extinguishing effects via a gyroscope, mood-based color shifts, or other interactive behaviors. None of that is present here, leaving the mochi feeling like a step backward in terms of innovation.

The biggest concern is the pricing. At a premium price, the mochi offers less functionality than other special editions and standard 3rd-generation mochis. While the flame animation is appealing at first, its novelty fades once you realize how limited the animations are.
